Libraries and Parks are going to that a HUGE hit if Proposition 457 passes.
Already slated is the elimination of both branch libraries, this means the elimination of 55 full time employees.
But what should also be noted is that the Main Glendale library is scheduled to be managed by an outside private library company. In the past this private library company has been known to take over a library and lay off all the skilled library staff and replace them with customer service employees.
So essentially this is the elimination of ALL city library employees.
The elimination of staffing and funding for licensed Glendale Recreation After-School Program (GRASP) at the Rose lane, O’Neil and Glendale Community Cneters.
Closure of the Rose Lane and O’Neil recreation centers, since they are unable to operate with out staff or funding from GRASP.
Closure of the Rose Lane Aquatics Facility – this will eliminate recreational swimming and lessons at the facilty as well as private rental of the facility. This impaces 30 thousand users of the Rose Lane facilty. Open swim, lessons and the rental of the facility by private swim teams will no longer occur.
The Foothills Recreation and Aquatics Center will become 100% cost recovery (Think high fees) . Hours will be decreased one hour per day and the activity room, which is currently open free of charge to any visitor will be repurposed into revenue generating space.
