Who are we?
We are parents, children, husbands, grandparents, wives, brothers, taxpayers and citizens of America. We are you.
We are not career politicians, or lobbyist, we are working people, nurses, educators, sales people, students, and retired people. We formed Glendale First! As a last resort, the last line of defense.
We are concerned by misinformation and exaggerated numbers being used to sway the thoughts of the citizens of Glendale.
We are concerned about the future of Glendale. Currently Glendale is facing some serious economic challenges; we have a City Council that has to make complex, tough choices, which have effects on city services.
If Proposition 457 passes, the City of Glendale and it’s council will be forced to make $25million in cuts to the current fiscal year. This means the 250 city employees will lose their jobs in November! Of those 250 jobs, 106 are in public safety.
Public safety are the police on the streets and the firefighters that protect the citizens of Glendale daily. These men and women, who place themselves in danger daily, are going to be the group hit the hardest.
What that really means is that the Citizens of Glendale are going to be less safe on the streets and in their homes without the needed public safety officers on the job.
Glendale First! will do everything within our power to provide the citizens of Glendale with the information that they need to make an informed decision regarding Prop 457.
Glendale First! is in full agreement with the opinion of the Glendale City Council that the future of Glendale depends on the additional revenue that would result from the small increase in the sales tax.
We urge the citizens of Glendale to Vote NO on Prop 457! If this TEMPORARY sales tax is eliminated the citizens of Glendale will be faced with massive cuts in ALL areas and services provided by the city. The sales tax, as it stands is slated to bring in $23million per year. With this revenue stream decreased the City Council will be forced to provide a balanced budget that includes cuts to essential quality of life programs such as parks, libraries, pools, as well as street maintenance and trash removal services. In addition to the cuts to the public safety divisions of fire and police.
It is ironic, when we started our fight this summer, we were at the parks and libraries telling people it is not about the libraries and parks, as people were being lead to believe with the referendum against the Arena Management Agreement. Now as we tackle Prop 457, it is about the libraries, parks, fire, police, and all of the essential services that help to make a city desirable for business and residents.
We hope you will take the time to examine the facts we present here on our site and through our representatives. We will support and stand behind every statement we make.
